A new tool, "Anesthesia Record Deletion Activity", is available to Anesthesia users. Accessible directly from an open anesthesia encounter (click the camera icon for screenshots), this tool will allow users to quickly delete an anesthesia record without needing to launch the regular Chart Correction Tools.

Conditional After Visit Summary for Aprepitant and Sugammadex

• Conditional After Visit Summary for Aprepitant and Sugammadex

As of September 11, 2026, if a patient was administered Aprepitant (Emend) or Sugammadex (Bridion) while undergoing anesthesia and they meet the below criteria, an advisory warning will appear in their After Visit Summary (AVS) to advise that hormonal birth control effectiveness will be temporarily decreased due to potential drug interactions, and that additional/alternative contraception is recommended. Previously, Our Practice Advisories (OPAs) were only triggered for clinicians if the legal sex in their patient record was set to "Female", and patient education may have been missed particularly as contraceptive use is not always disclosed/documented.

This advisory will appear in a patient's AVS if the patient: 

• Is between 9 and 55 years old
• Is documented as "Female" or "Female sex at birth" 
• Is not currently pregnant 
• Has no documented history of hysterectomy AND
• Sugammadex has been administered in the past 7 days OR 
• Aprepitant has been administered in the past 30 days

Anesthesia/Surgery Update - Change to Anticoagulant OPA

• Update to Anticoagulant Our Practice Advisory (OPA)

As of August 20, 2026, the existing OPA for anticoagulants will be updated to fix an issue found where the OPA fired inappropriately for regional nerve blocks that did not involve the spine. Anesthesia prescribers will now see a warning for anticoagulants in the following scenarios:

• Warning will fire if a procedure note has been entered or epidural catheter has been documented (click the camera icon for a screenshot).

• Warning will fire (and display) in the Anesthesia px note if anticoagulant was given prior to the start of an anesthesia procedure.

The warning will discontinue after the appropriate amount of time has passed (12 hours). 

Anesthesia Update - Outpatient Morphine Milligram Equivalents Per Day

• Anesthesia Update - "Outpatient Morphine Milligram Equivalents Per Day" Now in Desktop Connect Care

Previously, the "Outpatient Morphine Milligram Equivalents Per Day" section only appeared for Anesthesia users when accessing a patient's chart through the Haiku mobile app (under "Summary"). As of July 24, 2026, the section can also be found in the desktop version of Connect Care, in the Preprocedure navigator for Anesthesia, under the "Anesthesia Review" section (click the camera icon below for a screenshot).

• Anesthesia Update - ECT Enhancements

As of July 21, 2026, a few enhancements will be made impacting the ECT Anesthesia documentation workflow:

• A new "Prev ECT" column will be added to the ECT Status Board.
• Lightning bolt icon will indicate patient had previous completed ECT visits (in last 2 years), hovering over icon will display details including information pulled from the ECT Anes Memo comment.

• Updates will be made to the anesthesia documentation workflow:
• Intraprocedure Memo now the recommended method for documenting additional clinical details, so they can be pulled and visible in the new ECT Status Board column and the ECT Treatment Report. 

• This replaces the previous practice of recording information in the Blue Sticky Notes (which are not for clinical documentation and cannot be pulled into the ECT Status Board or Treatment Report).

• Anesthesia Update - New Delete Documentation from Deleted Record Chart Correction Tool

As of May 26, 2026, a new Chart Correction Tool, "Anesthesia - Delete Documentation from Deleted Record", will be made available to Anesthesia users. This tool will allow users to delete incorrect documentation (e.g., medications from the MAR, LDAs, flowsheet entries) from a record that has already been soft-deleted.

Anesthesia Update - Managing Patient-Reported Glucose Results

• Anesthesia Update - MyChart Patient-Entered Flowsheets Manager Activity

As of May 19, 2026, Anesthesia users will be able to independently manage the In Basket messages they receive around patient-reported glucose results. 

Previously, when Anesthesia users clicked the “Manage these messages” link in the In Basket message (or accessed via the chart), they would get a "You do not have security to edit this record" error message in the Patient-Entered Flowsheet Manager activity, and an IT analyst would need to resolve the task on behalf of the user. Anesthesia users will now have the proper security setting to view and edit the Patient Reported Glucose flowsheet, so that they can resolve the task on their own.

• Operating Room Flightboard Optimization

As of May 26, 2026, the layout and content of the surgical Flightboard in the OR space will have a number of updates. Virtual Office Hours will be held May 12 and 14 to preview the changes (see below for details). 

• New suite of warning icons within patient header (SOGIE/legal name check required, Diabetic patient, Pregnant patient, Blood restrictions, Malignant Hyperthermia)
• Existing items (name, staff) rearranged, all text set as "dynamic" to accommodate for multiple monitor widths across the province
• Medication widget logic updated to reflect OR-specific criteria/therapeutic drug classes, lookback window set to active meds/12 hours
• Lab widget break-fix; base names replaced with common names, lookback window set at 24 hours
• New Specimen widget displays source, type, and test

• Anesthesia Update - Second Channel rSO2 Configuration for Masimo Root Monitors

As of March 26, 2026, Anesthesia users will see two extra rows in the Anesthesia intraop grid and graph showing Regional Cerebral Oxygen Saturation (rSO2) data, if they have the Masimo Root monitor programmed to stream second channel data. The new rows - "Regional Saturation Cerebral Left_Ch2 (%)" and "Regional Saturation Cerebral Right_Ch2 (%)" - will appear in the "Other" section with the other rSO2 rows (click the camera icon for a screenshot), but will be hidden if there is no data to stream in.

Anesthesia prescribers often cover patients on the Acute Pain Service, but previously did not have access to discharge instruction functionality. As of January 23, 2026, Anesthesia prescribers will have access to Patient Instructions and the After Visit Summary (AVS), allowing them to add information that needs to be shared with the patient at the time of discharge. 

The "Patient Instructions" and "After Visit Summary" sections can be accessed from two activities found in the Patient List, "Pain Service" and "Rounding" (click the camera icons for screenshots).

• Anesthesia Update - Documentation of Bite Block Events for ECT

As of January 23, 2026, to improve documentation, Anesthesia prescribers can enter a bite block insertion or removal event in the Anesthesia record for patients undergoing Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) procedures. 

• In the Intraprocedure tab, select "Events" and then "Add New". The new "Insert Bite Block" and "Remove Bite Block" events can be found in the "Misc" tab (click the camera icon for a screenshot).

• If an insertion is documented without a corresponding removal, a soft stop notification will appear in the record checklist to remind users to document removal.

Anesthesia Update - New Outpatient Spirometry Ordering Workflows

• Anesthesia Update - New Outpatient Spirometry Ordering Workflows

As of January 27, 2026, there will be a few changes to how to order spirometry to be performed in an outpatient clinic, replacing the previous workflow of ordering an Ambulatory Referral to Respiratory Therapy.  

• "Spirometry POC" - New order available for point of care testing at the patient's bedside, for sites that page a Respiratory Therapist.
• "Spirometry - without bronchodilator" and "Spirometry - with bronchodilator" - Updated orders will have an appointment request built in, no need for a referral to accompany the procedure order, procedure to be scheduled at respiratory therapy clinic. 
• Note: The "Spirometry - with bronchodilator" order is available only in the "Spirometry with Bronchodilator w/ meds Panel (AMB)", with accompanying medication orders that will be signed and held for release by the Respiratory Therapist during testing.

There are no changes to ordering spirometry to be performed on an inpatient or in a Pulmonary Function Lab.
