Adult Enteral Feeding (EN) Order Changes

Enhancement updates provide short alerts to new, fixed or improved Connect Care functions...
  • Adult Enteral Feeding (EN) Order Changes
As of June 2, 2026, adult enteral nutrition orders will be changing to improve patient safety, reporting, and operations, impacting all inpatient and Continuing Care settings. The orders are being updated with new content, display, and functionality. Any previous personalization of these orders will need to be updated after the change. Following the change, please do not modify or re-order old orders but instead place a net new order.

Key changes include:
  • The name of the orders will change to Adult Enteral Feeding with Tray, Adult Enteral Feeding without Tray, and Adult Enteral Feeding Safe Start.
  • Hard stops will be added for several items to ensure Patient Food Services teams have the necessary information to deliver enteral feeds (e.g., "Formula" and "Formula Volume to Prepare"). Other hard stops will be added that are dependent on administration and modular entry.
  • Modules/Additives will be renamed to "Modular", and a second modular option will be available.
  • Safe Start order will be restricted to Peptamen AF 1.2 (Semi-Elemental) and with limited rate options. If other formulas or rates are desired, please use the Adult Enteral Feeding with/without Tray order.
  • The Adult Enteral Nutrition order set will be revised and will require re-personalization.
  • System order sets will require re-personalization of any adult EN orders.
Dietitians will cutover diet and nutrition orders, and old orders will be replaced with new orders within 1 week (goal by June 9).
