- Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) External Sendout Test Request
As of February 10, 2026, particular lumbar puncture order sets should be used to order a CSF External Sendout Test (Referred Test), both for clinicians performing a lumbar puncture in clinic and for those requesting an interventional radiology lumbar puncture (inpatients or outpatients).
- Clinicians Performing a Lumbar Puncture in Clinic: Use the Lumbar Puncture SmartSet. The request will be listed under Laboratory Investigations - Routine >> Cerebrospinal Fluid - Bedside Procedure >> Inflammatory.
- Request for Interventional Radiology Lumbar Puncture:
- Inpatients: Use the Lumbar Puncture SmartSet. The request will be listed under Laboratory Investigations - Routine >> Cerebrospinal Fluid - Interventional Radiology (done in DI suite or OR) >> Inflammatory.
- Outpatients: Use the Ambulatory Interventional Radiology Lumbar Puncture SmartSet. The request will be listed under "CSF Miscellaneous/Infrequent Tests".
